Oils commonly used in fighting tobacco addiction are thyme, ylang ylang and pine. Another blend to try is lavender, marjoram sweet, palmarosa, frankincense, geranium, cedarwood and vetiver. Use 10 drops of each oil to an equal part of jojoba oil. This is a strong, but relaxing blend that can also help relieve anxiety, stress, restlessness, nervousness and withdrawals of nicotine.
If you don’t want to go through the expense of purchasing several different essential oils, you can also get similar benefits from sniffing single oils such as peppermint, cinnamon or nutmeg, which can also help with feelings associated with wanting to smoke. Black pepper oil another oil which can be used alone, however, this oil doesn’t necessarily work for everyone.
If you find you dislike the smell of the above oils, you can create your own combinations or find oils which you like the scent of alone. Smelling any oil can help to induce feelings of relaxation and calmness.
In addition to aroma therapy, you should also practice deep breathing exercises. Breathing deeply is a big part of smoking which people often forget about. In addition to the chemicals cigarettes release into the brain, you’re also calming yourself down by remembering to breathe. You don’t have to have a cigarette in your mouth to calm down and relax. You can mimic the act of smoking at any time you feel the urge to smoke or feel stressed out.
Hypnotherapy and herbal supplements can also be extremely helpful. You can purchase aromatherapy products and supplement blends specifically formulated to help smokers quit their habit and you can seek out a hypnotherapist and pay for their help too. Unfortunately, money is a concern for many of us. In fact, money and the cost of cigarettes may be one of the reasons why you’re planning to quit.
If money is a problem, you can save by creating your own aromatherapy blends, researching supplements and only buying supplements known to help your specific symptoms and dabble in self hypnosis, which can be a very useful tool in anyone’s life, not just for smokers.
