Hypnotherapy: Can Hypnotherapy Aid A Smoker Who Is Trying To Quit?

Hypnotherapy is an alternative treatment method used to stop smoking and get rid of nicotine cravings that may people often don’t realize exist. Hypnosis seems less scary to people who are curious about treatments like acupuncture, but are afraid of needles being stuck in their bodies.

Swinging PendulumKicking the nicotine habit can be immensely difficult.  If you’re a smoker who’s been unsuccessful in previous attempts at quitting, you’ve probably tried quitting cold turkey, tapering back or even gums and patches.  These types of treatment options can be pricey and may not be effective.

Hypnotherapy is a non-evasive natural treatment option performed by a certified hypnotherapist

Hypnotism is a concentrated method of relaxation, while allowing the smoker to focus a particular problem, symptom or issue.  While under hypnosis, an individual can expect to feel relaxed and focused.  The purpose of hypnotherapy is to move the individual past the conscious mind and into the subconscious mind.  Your subconscious doesn’t know the difference between reality and imagination, so moving past the conscious mind and into the subconscious allows the individual to view themselves as a non-smoker, which will ultimately become their living reality.

Contrary to popular belief, anyone can be hypnotized.  People access their subconscious mind constantly without realizing it.  Have you ever “zoned out” while completing a task, only to find several minutes later that you had indeed completed the task correctly, however, you had no recollection of the steps you took to get it done?  Accessing your subconscious is kind of like this.
The success rates for smokers who implement hypnotism to stop smoking are much higher than the patches and gums which are currently available on the market.

If hypnotherapy is something you’re interested in trying in order to quit smoking, you can seek the ability of a certified hypnotherapist or you can practice self hypnosis.

If you want to practice self hypnosis, start by writing out a plan and your goals.  You should always be clear in what you intend to achieve and be sure of yourself.  Sometimes speaking as if a goal has already been achieved can produce a higher success rate.  For example, instead of saying or writing “I’m going to quit smoking in the next six months”, try something like, “I’m a healthy non-smoker and I deal with my stress without the aid of tobacco cigarettes”.

Create the plan and follow through with it.  This means the plan needs to be a realistic plan unique to your lifestyle and strengths and weaknesses.

Write the same goal or goals several different ways and repeat these goals as a daily affirmation.  Creating imagery and symbols for your goals can be very beneficial to meeting your goal in the end.  By placing symbols around you, there’s a constant positive reminder of the goals you’re trying to accomplish.
