When you quit many good benefits begin to emerge and change your life; first is monetary, the next is taste, you can enjoy food for what it is, tasty, you can smell better and enjoy the coming spring air, but beyond all of these there is health, your lungs will begin to clear of the badness that would eventually cause you major illness you may cough quite a bit in the first month or two and there will be mucus, mucus is the lungs natural lubricant and remover of detritus... hence we cough.

The real good news is that will lungs fully recover if you are young, as does the heart and other organs from the detrimental effect of smoking.

It has been proffered that smoking may even be a good thing for a very short time, as when younger people do stop their immune system has been anointed with a system to fight future onset cancers; so, If you believe this theory then stopping now has even greater benefit for later life. ( BUT... DO IT WHILST YOU'RE YOUNG!).

Those of you who are getting on a bit still can gain some benefit but do not expect miracles.

Good luck.
