I quit smoking - What should I do to stay strong?

I recently quit smoking (I was cliche and quit on January 1st). The longest I've gone w/o a smoke before is 9 months, and I'm already frustrated by this and i'm not even close to that length.

At one point I smoked around 1.5 - 2 packs a day, but by the time I quit I had been on about half a pack a day for 6 months or more. Anyway, I used the patch for the first month or so, but I'm done with that now and it's absolutely driving me nuts. Any advice to help take my mind off of things? I'm a big gamer so that eats up a lot of my downtime, or I'll read a book, things like this. What else could/should I do?

I should mention that I recently started taking classes at a local college, and a ridiculous amount of the young people here smoke. It's extra tough smelling it everywhere I walk. Any ideas to relieve this?

Thanks

It's really all about self-discipline. You must be firm on your decision of quitting and before that you must be fully-equipped with the knowledge on how smoking will ruin one's life. Above all, I suggest for you to get involve in religious organizations. Spiritual guidance is the most important.

I quit smoking many years ago. I used to smoke two packs a day. The best thing to do when you quit a bad habit is to replace it with a good one. Quitting smoking leaves a void in your life, if you don't fill it it will be harder to deal with the urge. What I did was I ran everyday to help clean out my lungs. Walking, taking up a new hobby, anything just do not go back to smoking. Watch your eating though, usually people gain a lot of weight when they stop smoking, kind of replacing the old habit with food.
