I just quit smoking 3 weeks ago and I feel unhealthy.?

I had been smoking for a few years, I'm 21 now. 3 weeks ago I quit smoking cold turkey and have been going to the gym regularly, doing 30 minutes of cardio each time. Anyway, this is the second time I've caught a cold since, and this current one has lasted over a week. I feel like I'm doing everything right and getting negative results. Is this normal, feeling sickly after quitting?

Yes, it's normal. Your body is getting rid of toxins. You've taken away a part of its daily function, and it's getting used to not having the nicotine anymore. This can last for a few weeks or a few months, depending on your body. Congrats on quitting! It'll get better, I promise. :)

It seems odd, but, once you quit smoking, your body is able to shed all the tar in your lungs, and the fresh, healthy lung tissue becomes very susceptible to germs and sickness in the first few months following quitting.

When I quit smoking the first time in May 2007, I got Bronchitis, and it lasted for 4 months. I had never had Bronchitis before or since.

After about 6 months as a non-smoker, your body will be healthy again and able to fight off illnesses much better than when you were a smoker.

I AM P R O U D of you!

I smoked for 38 years.. quit 3 years ago effortlessly. At first your body has to get rid of all the tar and nasty crap that we put in our lungs when we smoke. It takes a little time.. just know in your heart that every single day you breath fresh, CLEAN air into your lungs.. it gets rid of more of the nasties.

Remember too that smoking actually causes your body to go on the defensive. Your throat has a mucous covering because of the constant attack of smoke on your throat.. when you quit that goes away so you are a little more acutely senstive to things. Take a mulivitiman & B Complex..that will help alot.

Keep doing your cardio workouts but be careful around a lot of people after you first quit because your system is now recovering and .. well.. its just hard to explain and put in words. I guess you could say that your whole respiratory system is now getting a new lease on life (so to speak) and its still a bit inflamed from the last cigarettes you smoked... it WILL clear up.. I had the same thing. I even went through a period where being around smokers actually gave me a sore throat... My wife thought I was over reacting.. I wasnt.

Just remember that you were not giving up something that helped you. Cigarettes do NOT calm people down.. it was actually quite the opposite. They raise blood pressure, raise heart rate and actually DULL the senses.. thats why people say it relaxed them.

Keep this in mind.. "Smokers smoke to be NORMAL.. Normal people dont have this problem". Each cigarette is just a little bridge to hold you over feeling normal until you have to do it again and again. Now you've broken this cycle and you dont have this problem. The lies cigarettes (the addiction) tell you arent nearly as bad as they really are.

Dont worry.. you are doing great and you'll continue to feel better each and every day. Enjoy the fresh air and the new taste of food!

I wrote an Article on how to quit because I stumbled across the same method as Allen Carr did.. yep.. it REALLY does work! I've even got some of the free Allen Carr videos linked in my article.
