Does taking the prescription pain reliever Tramadol/Ultram, make you quit smoking?

Normally, l smoke 2 packs a day, but when I take my Ultram to relieve pain I smoke around maybe 7 cigarettes a day or even less! The thought of smoking never even crosses my mind until I see someone else light up. when I run out of ultram, I go right back to smoking 2 packs. What is going on?

When you're on the Ultram, you're too high to worry about cigarettes. I know because I had the same experience.

It sounds like the Ultram is hitting the pleasure center in your brain. The same place that cigarettes do.

You don't crave cigarettes because the Ultram is doing the job that the cigarettes were doing.

I go to a pain management center where Tramadol is the main medication prescribed so i know a few things. People that smoke, drink, or do recreational drugs(either some of those things or all) tend to decrease or cease doing them while on Tram. It makes other habits less appealing. I used to like to take a swig of whiskey or two but since i have been on Trams i have not had a drink in over a year. Its weird stuff.
